How does this work with the practice of medicine?
We understand that it’s difficult to practice medicine without a face-to-face interaction with the patient, let alone any live interaction. That’s why the focus of Neem Health is on empowering the patient/caregivers. The goal is not to give the patients answers. Rather, it’s to give them more information so they can navigate their local healthcare system. What types of questions should they be asking? How should they think about the medical guidance given to them by their current doctors? There is never any pressure on clinicians to provide information they are uncomfortable with.
Are these case reviews compensated?
Yes! Neem Health gives physicians complete flexibility along all three applicable dimensions: what their hourly rate is, how many hours a month they work, and what types of cases they’d like to see.
What about licensing and malpractice?
We know that liability - legal, licensing, and reputational - is the number one concern for many physicians. We’ve comprehensively researched these with experienced healthcare lawyers in the US and in India and have taken the following steps to ensure the physicians doing reviews are protected.
First, we plan on providing malpractice insurance to all physicians doing case reviews.
Next, we are taking the same safeguards that other comparable services in the industry are taking. Since we are not the first business to offer telehealth appointments for international patients, we are constantly benchmarking ourselves against the other large hospital international offices (NYU, Mayo Clinic, and Johns Hopkins).
Finally, we will periodically review licensing risk with our legal team. None of the aforementioned hospital systems have additional licenses for seeing international patients either. We will also indemnify all physicians against any licensing issues.
